Over/Under

Over/Under (Total) Betting Explained

Over/Under betting, also known as total betting, is a popular wagering option in sports betting. Instead of focusing on which team will win, this type of bet centers on the combined total points, goals, or runs scored by both teams in a game. The sportsbook sets a specific number, and bettors predict whether the actual total will be higher (Over) or lower (Under) than that value.

Let's take an example from a football game. If the Over/Under is set at 45 points, betting Over means you believe the total points scored by both teams will be 46 or more. Conversely, betting Under means you expect the combined points to be 44 or less.

The over/under line for this MLB game is set at 9. If the game were to end with exactly 9 runs, regardless of which you picked, most sportsbooks consider that a "push" and give you your money back.

Over/Under betting is not limited to just the final score; it can also apply to individual team scores or player statistics. It adds excitement to games, especially when the outcome is unclear, as you can root for points to be scored or hope for a low-scoring defensive battle. Total betting provides an excellent opportunity for bettors to focus on the overall performance of the teams or players, rather than just the outcome.
